Essay Topics - King Lear

Essay Topics - King LearKing Lear is a play by William Shakespeare that was written over four hundred years ago. It is one of his most famous plays, and has always been one of the top choices for students to write an essay on. But, there are some problems with this essay topic.Lear's parents killed his first two wives and so, the plays about Lear's 'begetting' continues. However, in order to be able to answer the question 'What is the purpose of our lives?' the play cannot talk about what makes a person born. The first act tells us that, 'the wrath of heaven was kindled against a son that neither would nor could.'It was an amazing and great event in King Lear's life. When the play begins, Lear's anger is boiling over because a visitor from England has been talking down to him. He had been taunting him by saying that he is no king, and that it was foolish for Lear to be King of England. So, the first act quickly gets into the blame game that follows. This incident leads to his rebellio n and his plan to get rid of the visitor, but his actions only cause his own death. Then, the play ends with him in hell being forced to hear all the people he has killed. That seems pretty obvious, but the main problem with writing an essay on King Lear is that it is not clear whether he was actually murdered. All his actions seem to indicate that he tried to leave town, so, it would be hard to argue that he was killed in the game.Essay topics like this can also have some challenges. Students may feel as if they are being overly dramatic about the situation, and some will not want to admit that their motives were to blame. Thus, they end up stating that it was an accident, or they had been drinking. However, these essay topics can be difficult because of this. They are also very difficult to write, so the writer must be very skilled at writing concise, simple essays. Essay topics like these usually require a lot of research and preparation before the writer can even begin to write a draft.Other essay topics like these include American presidents, Shakespeare, and the Bible. Each of these topics has had its fair share of debate and controversy over the years, and the arguments for and against each may continue for decades.
